How to make a GIF from a video
Choose a video
Select a browser-decodable clip from your device. The source stays local.
Trim and set the frames
Choose the start and end, output width, FPS, speed and palette. Check the frame budget before encoding.
Download the GIF
Preview the animation and download the finished GIF. Cancel encoding if you want to revise the settings.
Best settings for small GIFs
Choose the shortest section that still communicates the action. Start with a modest width and frame rate, then compare the actual download size. A lower palette works well for flat graphics, while photos and gradients may need more colors. Doubling width can roughly quadruple the number of pixels in every frame. The same settings apply whether you convert MP4 to GIF, WebM to GIF or a compatible MOV clip.

Convert Video to GIF FAQ
Can I convert a video without signing in?
Yes. Choose a video, set a time range, create the GIF and download it without an account or payment. Only optional cloud saving requires a signed-in account.
Why is my GIF larger than the video?
A video codec can describe motion efficiently between frames. GIF stores indexed-color frames and has a smaller color palette. Shortening the selection, reducing width and lowering FPS usually have more impact than changing the palette alone. The size estimate is approximate; the result shows actual bytes.
Does the GIF include sound?
No. GIF does not carry an audio track. The video preview can play the original sound, but the exported animation contains image frames only.
Why will an iPhone MOV not open?
Some MOV files use HEVC or other codecs that the current browser cannot decode. MOV is a container, not a codec guarantee. Export the source as H.264 MP4, then choose the exported file.
What happens when I cancel?
Cancel terminates the encoding worker and stops preparing frames. A partial GIF is not offered for download. Your selected source remains available so you can reduce the output settings and start again.
How do I make a smaller GIF?
Use a short section with a clear action, start at 320px or 480px, and try 10–12 FPS. Use fewer colors for flat illustrations. Preview the result at the size you intend to share; a large animation rarely adds value inside a small chat message.
Can I create a boomerang loop?
Yes. Boomerang appends the frames in reverse order without repeating the end frames. It works best for a short action that reads naturally in both directions. Its additional frames count toward the duration and memory limits.
